Obituary – Florence A. Arrant

Florence A. Arrant

Elm Grove, LA – A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 8, 2018, at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with Father Joseph Ampatt and Deacon Michael Straub officiating. Interment followed at Hill Crest Memorial Cemetery, Haughton, LA. The family received friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2018, with a Rosary that began at 7:00 p.m.

Florence was born May 5, 1934, in Ripley, New York to Agnes Goodyear Folmar and Oliver Folmar and died on March 4, 2018, surrounded by her loving and devoted family. She was raised in Ripley, New York, and moved to Louisiana as a young bride, raised three children and became a true Steel Magnolia. Florence was faithful to her Lord, loved her church, her family, beanbag baseball at the Bossier Council on Aging, Bunco and Elvis. She was an accomplished seamstress, a wonderful cook and enjoyed working in her garden.

Florence’s legacy of a loving and faithful family will live on. She was the matriarch of a family of four generations who revered and respected her. Granny’s holiday gatherings were always celebrated in traditional style and will provide treasured memories to all who loved her. Her Pie Night Celebration on Thanksgiving Eve was an event not to be missed by family and friends for miles around Chinanook Road.

Florence is survived by her sister, Martha Coon of Northeast PA; and brother, Francis Nutting of Ripley, New York, Memories of a strong woman with a heart of gold will be shared by her children that survive her, daughters, Patricia Decker and husband Thomas, Roxann Hall and husband Richard; son, Billy Arrant and wife Sheryl, all of Elm Grove, LA. She was Grandma to seven grandchildren, grandson, Michael Dunaway and wife Pam of Springhill, LA; six granddaughters, who were models for her designer hats and scarves, Tina Hall, Tammy Hall, Tara Falls and husband Chase, Tracy Paeth and husband Shaun, Tabitha Dupont & husband Dusty, and Tara Arrant.

She leaves 15 great-grandchildren, Austin, Tyler, Saebyn, Samantha, Spencer, Justin, Tanner, Skylar, Sarah, Colton, Shalynn, Savannah, Luke, Sasha and Lanie. She also leaves her niece, Charlene Shumaker and nephews, Ronald Nutting, Daniel Coon and Rick Coon. Honoring Florence as pallbearers will be Jason Mc-Garry, Steven McGarry, Kris Gordon, Brett Burrow, Tommy Akins, Lonnie Norsworthy, Tom Perry, Danny Simon.
