Horace Franklin Downs

Shreveport, LA – Horace Franklin Downs, 92, of Shreveport, LA, passed away Monday, April 9 in Bossier City, LA.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:30pm Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Cypress Baptist Church with Pastor Tommy Patton of Cypress Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements by Auld’s Funeral Home.

Horace Franklin Downs, was born on February 11, 1926 in Douglasville, TX. He was the 3rd of 7 children to James and Madie Downs. He joined the Navy at age 17, to serve in WWII, then returned to marry his high school sweetheart, Betty Jo Rogers . Horace drove his semi truck for 47 years visiting all states in the Continental U.S. Horace had a phenomenal work ethic and quick wit everyone knew and loved. To know him, was to love him.

Horace Downs is preceded in death by his parents, James and Madie Downs; 2 sisters- Estelle Smith and Ann Dodd; 3 brothers, Gerald, Robert, and Wayne; Wife of 35 years in 1980, Betty Rogers Downs; One daughter, Shirley Downs Young.

Horace Downs is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Downs WIlliams of Bossier City, LA. Oldest brother, James Downs, Jr of Ashdown, AR. 6 Grandchildren, Shane Williams of Houston, TX, Brandy Sexton of Carrollton, TX, Laura Young of CO; Tammy Young Mack of Hillsborough, NC. Mathew Young of NC; Patrick Young of NC; 19 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

The family of Horace Downs wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Alan Borne, Donald Wallace, Tommy Patton and Cypress Baptist Church.
