Genevieve Darlene Perkins Nelson
Bossier City, LA – A Celebration of Life service for Genevieve Darlene Perkins Nelson will be held on Sunday, June 3rd at 3:00 p.m. at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home. The visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. before the service for family and friends who knew her. Interment will follow in Hill Crest Memorial Park. Officiating will be Dr. Randy Harper of Bellaire Baptist Church.
Genevieve D. Perkins Nelson was born on August 7, 1919 to Henry and Stella Perkins at Dido, Louisiana. Genevieve was an active member of Bellaire Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading the Bible and sewing. She loved watching the news and keeping up with world events.
Genevieve was a graduate of the Confederate Memorial Hospital Nursing Program. She worked for the Caddo Health Department as their Public Health Registered Nurse and also worked as Director of Nurses for Heritage Manor of Bossier City and Irving Place.
Mrs. Nelson served the public well in taking care of patients. She helped with children and wives whose husband were overseas. She also worked in Girl Scouts as a Day Camp Counselor.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. Josey Herman Nelson; sisters, Carrie Waiss, Marie Thibodeaux, Irene Carter, Ann Moore, and Jewel Garland; and brother, Luzon Perkins. She is survived by her daughter, Darlene Ann Nelson of Bossier City; niece, Judy Cannon of Coushatta; nephew, Billy Garland of Natchitoches; and numerous cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephew.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. Charles McCuller, Dr. William Bailey, Dr. Michael Sewell, Dr. Paul Cole, and Dr. Joseph Tynes. We also like to thank the 3rd floor of Willis Knighton Hospital, the Northwest Louisiana War Veterans’ Home, and Colony Oaks of Bossier City.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to American Heart Association and American Legion #388.
