Obituary: Joyce Keith

HAUGHTON – Services to honor the life of Joyce Klug Keith, 86, will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, December 9, 2016, at First Baptist Church Haughton; officiated by Dr. Gevan Spinney. Interment will follow in Hill Crest Memorial Park.

Joyce was born in Richland, Nebraska on September 4, 1930, to parents Harold John Klug and Viola Kasper Klug, and passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2016. Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 63 years, Cullen Bryant Keith, Jr, infant daughter, Susan Mae Keith, and sister Bonnie Klug Barcel. She is survived by her four sons, Bryant “Bo” (Tina) of Haughton, LA, Mike (Jo Anne) of Haughton, LA, John (Vanessa) of Haughton, LA, Tim (Kim) of Brandon, FL; sister Violet Thessen of Bellwood, NE, brother Myron Klug (Louise) of Richland, NE; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; a multitude of loving cousins, nieces and nephews.

Joyce attended elementary school in Richland, NE and high school in Columbus, NE. After high school Joyce moved to California to live with her sister Vi and attend nursing school at Hollywood Presbyterian School of Nursing, where she graduated in 1951 as a RN. While in nursing school she accepted a blind date with a United States Marine. A blind-date that lasted 63 years.

Joyce had many nursing opportunities in the Shreveport/Bossier community, working at Schumpert Memorial, Confederate Memorial, Bossier General, BAFB Delivery Unit, Bossier Parish Health Unit, and Bossier Parish School Board.

Joyce was a longtime member of First Baptist Church Haughton, where she faithfully served with WMU, Sunday School, Foreign Missions, and Vacation Bible School. She also enjoyed worshipping with her Faithful Connection class each Sunday morning. Joyce participated in Baptist Nursing Fellowship and supported the Red Cross in New York City after the 2001 terrorist attack.

Pallbearers are Joey Keith, David Keith, Johnny Keith, Jerod Keith, Greg Keith, Jeremy Botica, Chase Keith, Jacob Keith.

Honorary Pallbearers are Benjamin Keith, Christian Keith, Hudson Keith, Scott Boswell, Roland Messier, James Keith.

The Keith family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Ted Warren, Tommy Robinson, PA and the other caring staff at the Promise Hospital of Bossier.

Memorials can be made to FBC Haughton Building Fund.
