BOSSIER CITY – A Mass of Christian Burial for Robert Glen Cockrell will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2016 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Shreveport. Officiating will be Msgr. Earl Provenza and Msgr. Carson LaCaze. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park Cemetery in Haughton. Visitation will be Thursday, December 15, 2016 beginning at 4:30 p.m., with a Rosary at 7 p.m., at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Bossier City.
Robert was born May 9, 1936 in Coushatta to Tommie J. and Alma Friday Cockrell and died December 10, 2016 in Shreveport. Robert was a 1955 graduate of Bossier High School and received his BS in Finance from Centenary College. Robert was also a graduate of the National Graduate Trust School at Northwestern University, Chicago, IL. He served in the United States Air Force from 1956-1960. He began his career in finance in 1960 at First National Bank of Shreveport, while attending Centenary College. In 1967 he moved to Commercial National Bank; in 1983 he managed the office of Scharff and Jones, which was bought by Morgan Keegan in 1990. In 2013, Robert retired from Raymond James as a First Senior Vice-President.
Robert was involved in many organizations including, Parkway High School Athletic and Band Booster Clubs, former president of the Bossier Jaycee’s, the National Exchange Club (president of the AR and LA District), organized Special Olympic events at Parkway High School in association with the Exchange Club, a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, a Knight in the Order of St. Gregory, served as President of the Finance Committee at Christ the King and Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Churches and served on the Appeals Board for the Bossier City Metropolitan Planning Commission.
His parents preceded him in death.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 58 ½ years, Isabelle “Liz” Cockrell; sons, Bobby Cockrell and wife, Julie, Tommy Cockrell and wife, Jodie; daughter, Donna Cockrell Flippo and husband, Mike; grandchildren, Jessica Lustig, Melissa Lustig, Prade Cockrell, Peyton Cockrell, Trey Cockrell and wife, Jessica, Lauren Cockrell, Emily McMaster and husband, Anthony, Joseph Cockrell and Christian Cockrell and great grandchildren, Michael Blaise Cockrell and Francis McMaster.
Honoring Robert as pallbearers will be, Ed Shaw, Senator Barrow Peacock, Doyle Blasingame, Roy Underwood, Jap Gullat, and Charles Glover. Honorary pallbearers will be, Percy Hubbard, Nick Roppolo, Scott Mighell, M.D. and Clyde Warren.
