Roger Allen “Mickey” Weber of Haughton (5/31/29 – 3/21/17) passed away on Tuesday at The Northwest Louisiana Veterans Home in Bossier City, LA after a lengthy illness.
A visitation will be held from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home in Haughton, LA followed by a private graveside service.
Mickey was born in Stafford Springs, CT and was a resident of the Shreveport/Haughton area for 44 years.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and later entered into the U.S. Air Force where he served in Vietnam before retiring from the military after 21 years of service. He was a proud member of The Veterans of Foreign Wars, The Disabled American Veterans, and The American Legion. Following his military service Mickey was active as a medical supply representative and as a Medicare servant with the Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
As a youth in Connecticut, Mickey was a star athlete and received a scholarship to play football at Boston University. His love of sports, particularly football, was a lifelong and contagious passion. To assist youth from his hometown he established the Edward Bastolla athletic scholarship in honor of a beloved coach from his high school.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harriett Wuth Weber and William P. Weber, a brother, William E. Weber, a son, Roger A. Weber II, and his step brother and dearest friend, Robert L. Sullivan and his wife, Pat of Hampden, MA. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy A. Weber and daughter, Kristy of Haughton, LA, a son Daniel and his wife, Elizabeth, and their daughter Camila of Benton, LA.
Mickey was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all who knew him. Poppa Mick you were so dearly loved by us all and will be missed terribly. The family is indebted to Regional Hospice Care Group and The Northwest Louisiana Veterans Home for their care and attention and would like to thank Debbie Richardson for the kindness she has shown the family.
In lieu of flowers the family would like to suggest a donation of volunteer time or other be made in Mickey’s name to the veteran’s cause of your choosing.
This, I will remember, when the rest of life is through: The finest thing I’ve ever done is simply loving you.
