Penney Johnson

Penney Elva Patterson Johnson

Penney Elva Patterson Johnson died April 9, 2016 at her home in Shreveport. A memorial service for her will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church of Shreveport. Dr. Pat Day will officiate the service. A reception will be held immediately following the service in Bain Hall.

Penney was preceded in death by her husband Paul, daughter Mary Paige and father Jimmy Patterson. She is survived by her daughter Peyton Johnson, mother Rosemary Patterson, sisters Pam Johnston and Peggy Foster, best friend and care giver Mark Johnson, four nephews, two nieces, many extended family members, and more friends than can be listed here.

She was a registered nurse who worked in the Operating Room at Bossier Medical Center and LSU Health Science Center. Most recently, she worked in the Adolescence Unit at Brentwood Hospital. Her sassy personality was perfect for working with the teenage patients. She was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority and relished this special bond with her mother, mother in law, her aunt, and both of her daughters.

For the past eleven years Penney suffered from multiple illnesses. The family wishes to thank the many physicians who cared for her in the Shreveport/Bossier area and at The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. They quickly learned that she was quite a character – expecting special treatment and receiving it!

Penney had a quick wit and a sharp mind that never failed to tell you how she felt. At two years of age her Mother said “Some people will worship Penney, some will dislike her but NONE will ignore her.” There is no one that could doubt the truth of that statement.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Mary Paige Johnson Memorial Fund at Loyola College Prep, 921 Jordan St, Shreveport, LA 71101. Memorials can also be made to the Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority at NSU, 735 University, Natchitoches, LA 71457; these will be forwarded the Tri-Sigma national philanthropic project, the Robbie Page Memorial Children’s Hospital.

Honorary pallbearers are her nephews Adam, Garrett, Morgan and Marshall Johnston, cousin Jeff Free, and family friends Walker Gamble and Mike Leflett.
