Katherine Ghettie Sockrider
ELM GROVE, LA – Visitation for Katherine Ghettie Sockrider, 69, was held from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm Friday, April 15, 2016 at Hill Crest Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services were held Friday, April 15, 2016 at 1:00 pm with Bro. Billie Pierce officiating. Interment followed on Saturday, April 16, 2016, at 12:00 p.m., at Lakewood Memorial Park in Clinton, MS.
Kay was born in Jackson, Mississippi on August 25, 1946 to Mary Joyce and Johnnie V. Ghettie, Jr. She graduated from Whitehaven High School.
She was the devoted mother of John Scott Griffis and Stacye Joyce Griffis Copeland and dedicated her life to caring for both of them through any circumstance.
On May 4, 1996, she married H. F. Sockrider. She later retired from her outstanding career as a paralegal for the law firm of Sockrider, Bolin, Anglin & Batte.
Preceding her in death were her parents and her son, Scott Griffis.
Survivors include her beloved husband, Sock; daughter, Stacye Copeland and daughter in law Rhonda Griffis. Step sons, Keith, Steve, Gary and Christopher Sockrider; grandchildren, Piper and Peyton Griffis, Katelyn and Lindsey Copeland, Benjamin, Walker, Grant and Henry Sockrider, Austin and Kyle Sockrider, Aidan and Elle Sockrider, a much anticipated first great grand-daughter, Tessa Kaye; sister, Carol Ghettie Pickle; nieces and nephews, Lisa M. Cox, Larry C. Farris, Jr., Tammy Kay Weber; and a host of other cherished family and dear friends.
Pallbearers were: James E. Bolin, Jr., D. Rex Anglin, Greg H. Batte, Christopher S. Sockrider, Gary W. Sockrider, Steven L. Sockrider, Peyton S. Griffis, Larry C. Farris, Jr., Zack Free, Lonnie Williams, and Johnny Griffis Kay loved the Lord attending Ford Park Baptist Church when her children were young, and in later years she became a member of Elm Grove Baptist Church.
She was involved for many years as a member of the Krewe of Justinian, alongside her husband, Sock and her son, Scott, where she made lifelong friends.
Kay lived her life through love and humor. Everyone she met was special to her; they became a part of her family. She found humor in the worst of situations, giving us laughter through tears. She was selfless when it came to the needs of others. She was the heart and soul of our family and will be sorely missed.
