Beginning March 21st BPL will have laptop computers available at each branch, except the History Center, for check out on a first-come, first-served basis. Each laptop will have built-in Internet connection availability and Microsoft Office pre-installed. This service is designed to meet our patrons’ needs in a practical convenient way.
To insure the machines are kept in good condition a new policy has been put in place. The policy states: limit (1) computer per household; a 5-day check out period with no renewals; laptops cannot be placed on hold; and must be returned in person to the issuing branch.
Patrons will need to have a BPL card and picture ID and must sign the laptop agreement. They cannot be used for legal purposes. Existing hardware or software configuration cannot be altered. Patrons must provide their own accessories that do not require software installation. Laptops cannot be checked out back-to-back by the same household within a two (2) week period.
As with all loaned library materials, a fine for lost or damaged items also applies to laptops.
At peak times during the regular school year patrons may have to be placed on a waiting list for the next available computer. To help alleviate the wait time for those needing only a few minutes to conduct business Bossier Central now has two stand-up only computers which are designated as non-renewable and set to fifteen minutes per patron.
The new laptop service and stand-up only computers are just a couple ways BPL is working toward making your library very user friendly.
