SHREVEPORT – Dr. Olufolabo Olamide Frederick Ogunyemi was born on the 18th of February, 1949 in Lagos, Nigeria.
He left Nigeria in 1972 to further his education. He attended Wake Forrest University in Winston Salem, North Carolina where, finishing cum laude, he earned a bachelor’s degree in biology. He then received a master’s of business administration in 1981 from then-Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe. His highest honor was receiving his Doctor of Education degree from Louisiana Tech University in 2013.
Dr. Ogunyemi settled in Louisiana with his college sweetheart Jeanette Bailey-Ogunyemi and family. He spent time working for the city, then ventured to the Bossier Parish School System, where he became affectionately known as “Mr. O” and later “Dr. O”. Dr. Ogunyemi interacted with the students, parents, and members of Bossier Parish schools for 20 years with a flare and style that was remarkable.
Dr. Ogunyemi is survived by his two sons, Olufolabo and Olusegun Jason Ogunyemi, their wives Natashia and Amy Ogunyemi, and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 31, 2017 at Church of the Holy Cross located at 875 Cotton Street, Shreveport, LA 71101. Family and friends will be received from 1:00-3:30 pm for Family Hour, with the funeral to commence at 4:00 pm. Burial service will follow at Forest Park Cemetery West, 4000 Meriwether Road, Shreveport, LA.
