Hank Bailey of Bossier City, passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2017. Services to celebrate his life will be held 11 AM, Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Hill Crest Funeral Home. Pastors David Dietzel and Uriah Oxford of First United Methodist Church will officiate. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 AM to 11 AM at the funeral home.
Hank was a member of First United Methodist Church, Bossier, New Covenant and the former Faith Sunday School Classes.
Hank was born August 2, 1934 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He was the only child of Henry and Margaret Bailey, the only grandchild of Emma McPhail, and the only great grandchild of Eugenia Griffing, of Brookhaven. All have preceded him in death.
Hank attended boarding school at Chamberlain Hunt Military Academy, Port Gibson, where in his elementary and high school years he excelled in studies and sports. He held a state record for Discus, received a football scholarship to Mississippi State, and achieved awards in ROTC. He was a member of the Choir, and enjoyed preforming at nearby churches; especially the meals that followed.
Years later he held state record in long-distance high-power target shooting in Massachusetts. He was an understudy of a known gunsmith, one of his many hobbies.
After his retirement from the Air Force and from technical sales, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved and respected the outdoors and passed this love on to his sons. When he was no longer able to walk through the woods, he built and flew model-controlled planes.
Survivors are his wife Frances; sons Henry and wife Donna of Dallas, Terry and wife Audrey of Austin; Grandchildren Justin, Garrett, Michael, Hannah, Josh and Caroline.
In lieu of flowers, remembrance may be made to First United Methodist Church, 201 John Wesley Blvd., Bossier, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
