Waneta Gladys (Walker) Edwards
Huntsville, AL – Waneta Gladys (Walker) Edwards, age 95 passed away on January 6, 2018 at Safe Haven Senior Family Home in Huntsville, AL. She had resided there from April 2017 until her passing.
Waneta was the first child born to Ernest and Dora Ethel Walker of Nowata County, OK. Waneta attended Field McKinley High School in Coffeyville, KS. She married her husband, Willie Lee “Bill” Edwards on April 25, 1941 in Alamogordo, NM and because he was in the military, they were privileged to travel the world and live in many places such as Hawaii and West Africa among others. They had been married 58 years at the time of Bill’s death in 1999, he was 81. She was a longtime resident of Bossier City, LA. In more recent years, Waneta lived in Oklahoma for a short time and then moved to Alabama to be near her niece and faithful caregiver Margaret Walker-Chasteau.
Preceding Waneta in death are her husband Willie Lee Edward; daughters, Wilnetta Carole Edwards-Fanning and Louise Ann Edwards-Fisher-Court; son, Ronald Edwards; grandson, Thomas Fanning; and brother, Kenneth Ernest Walker. Left to cherish her memory are four grandchildren, Whitney Fanning Duncan with husband Matt, Mike Fanning, Jeff Fisher, and Chad Fisher with wife Kiley; eight great grandchildren, one niece and one nephew.
Funeral services for Ms. Edwards were held at 10 AM, Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home under the direction of Rev. David Dietzel of First United Methodist Church of Bossier City. The family welcomed friends on Friday, January 12, 2018 from 5 PM to 7 PM at the Funeral Home.
